BOPIS is a simple acronym that stands for Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store, also known as Click & Collect, Curb-Side Pickup, and ROPIS (Reserve Online, Pick Up In-Store).

BOPIS, or Click & Collect is essentially foot traffic without traffic delays: no wait times, no lines, no unhappy customers or stressed out staff. In the US, Click & Collect is predicted to top $100 billion in sales in 2022, representing 80% of online orders. This 21% bump YoY growth isn’t going to stop anytime soon.

Click & Collect enables your customers to shop online 24/7, and get the items they want quickly, safely, and easily. Imagine never missing a delivery again, and being able to pick up your shopping at a time that’s suits you. Customers save on delivery fees and can ensure their parcel isn’t damaged in transit, which is so often the case with third party couriers or postal services.

BOPIS/Click & Collect orders need to be collected at the nominated pickup store or location, where proof of order is required. The confirmation screen will include a customers order number and booking ID, but some stores may require the confirmation email and/or photo ID, including a drivers licence or passport. It’s best to be prepared and have these on hand for pickup.

If a different person has been authorised to collect a parcel, they will require photo identification together with the proof of purchase. Once a parcel has been signed for, the person collecting is responsible for any damage or loss of items.

Depending on each retailer’s operating hours, staffing capacity, and product availability, Click & Collect times can vary. The best retailers are able to provide a next-day or even same-day Click & Collect service (some retailers within 60 minutes), where a customer can shop online and be notified as soon as their order is ready for pick up.
